Date: 27.11.01 For immediate release Continued Expansion for The Medical House Once again The Medical House has demonstrated its rapid growth rate as a new high-tech production facility is taken up to meet the growing demand for its specialist medical devices. Additional premises at Riverside Court, Sheffield are now home to the team behind the production of the mhi-500, the first NEEDLE FREE insulin delivery system to be designed and manufactured in the UK. The Medical House PLC is creating an initial 20 jobs for the region that will be dedicated to the mhi-500 which is now coming off the production line. In the past week the company has received many requests for representatives to visit Diabetes Specialists and Clinics to introduce them to the mhi-500, offering an alternative to current needle-based systems. To assist patients using the mhi-500 and to help the Diabetes Specialists and Carers aid them, The Medical House is producing a training video. This video, with easy-to-follow instructions, will demonstrate how to use the mhi-500 and will provide a useful tool to accompany the instruction manual also included in the mhi-500 package. This adds to the helpline and website, giving diabetics a complete information service. The mhi-500 will be ready for the end of December 2001 and subject to receiving the final CE mark will be despatched in January 2002. Advanced orders continue to be taken from insulin dependent diabetics throughout the UK. Says Chief Executive Ian Townsend, "The Medical House is growing quickly and we therefore have a pressing need to expand our facilities. With the Group's expertise in developing medical devices at a rapid rate we are fast becoming a significant player in the medical device market. The demand for needle-free insulin systems is encouraging and we are optimistic that this interest will rapidly convert into orders. It is a tribute to the ability of all our team that so much progress has been made in this area of medical devices in such a short period of time. Since signing the licence agreement with Bioject Inc in April, we have designed the mhi-500, produced prototypes, commissioned production tooling, established a production facility and put into place a sales force together with a Specialist Diabetes Nurse."
The Medical House PLC The Medical House PLC (TMH), which floated on AIM in September 2000, specialises in the design, manufacture and distribution of medical products and devices. The Group's companies include: Medical House Products Ltd (Needle-free drug delivery devices) TMH signed an exclusive distribution licence with Bioject Medical Technologies Inc, USA in April 2001.Under the terms of the agreement, TMH was granted exclusive rights, for an initial five year term, for the distribution of the Vitajet 3, a needle-free injection system for the delivery of insulin in the UK, continental Europe and Egypt. TMH was also granted licence to develop the mhi-500 in the same territories - the rights to which are held by TMH in perpetuity. In July 2001 TMH launched Essential Medical World Magazine, a publication for the senior medical professionals in the UK and an associated medical search engine, www.essentialmedicalworld.co.uk Essential Medical World will also provide TMH with a powerful
and cost-effective tool for the marketing of its medical devices
division. The magazine is circulated free to both senior medical
professionals in the UK as well as pharmaceutical companies,
which will create a readership of around 60,000. Bioject Medical Technologies Inc Bioject Medical Technologies Inc (Bioject) is an emerging drug delivery company based in Portland, Oregon, USA, developing technology for needle free injection of liquid medications.
