Medical House PLC Group Companies

The Medical House PLC (TMH) is a group of companies which specialises in the design, development, licensing and supply of innovative medical devices for global pharmaceutical, biotechnology and orthopaedic industry clients.

The group is focused on drug delivery technologies through its Medical House Products Ltd subsidiary.

Founded in 1987, TMH was admitted to London Stock Exchange's Alternative Investment Market (A.I.M.) in 2000.

The group's quality management systems are certified as compliant with ISO 9001: 2000 and ISO 13485:2003 and several of its medical device products have successfully achieved European CE-mark and United States FDA 510(k) approvals.

Needle-free delivery Systems - Medical House Products Ltd

The market for products for people with diabetes in the UK alone is over 500,000 who need to inject insulin on a daily basis. The mhi-500 is sold and marketed through the www.insulinjet.com web-site. The mhi-500 received a CE mark in December 2001 and sales began in January 2002.

In November 2002 The Medical House received Drug Tariff Approval for the mhi-500 (effective 1st Jan 2003). This effectively means that the mhi-500 is available free to diabetics in the UK provided they have a prescription from their G.P. In order to become the first and only needle free injection system on the Drug Tariff the Medical House had to demonstrate cost equivalence as well as bio equivalence to the present needle based systems.

In June 2002 an exclusive worldwide agreement was signed with BioPartners GmbH for the development of a new growth hormone drug. The stimulus for the development of needle-free injection devices is patient aversion to and wariness of needles. The consequence of this is patents can be reluctant to comply fully with their prescribed drug treatment regime. This can cause the treatment to be less effective and can lead to expensive subsequent surgery. The objective of needle-free devices is to encourage better compliance with a treatment regime, with obvious benefits to the patents and the healthcare provider.

    Medical Devices Design Division

Creative Medical Design entered into a licence agreement with Bioject Inc in April 2001. Under this agreement the Company was commissioned to develop a 2nd generation device, for use with insulin, which became the mhi-500. Under the agreement the intellectual property rights (IPR) are jointly held with Bioject. The Medical House's rights are limited to Insulin and Dental Anaesthesia throughout Europe.

Creative Medical Design works closely with the customers of Eurocut in the development of orthopaedic instruments, and Medical House Products customers for developing Bespoke Drug Delivery Solutions. The highly developed skills of Creative Medical Design's experienced operators and its integrated Unigraphics CAD-CAM system provide the capability to cope with the complexity and sophistication of virtually any product and to add value to customers' designs. These skills have been enhanced by the acquisition of a rapid prototyping machine, enabling prototypes of all types of medical devices to be produced literally overnight.

Creative Medical Design has been a key part of the group's strategy by utilising its skills and facilities to develop the medical products in the Products Division.

The skills of the designers are complemented by the investments which have been made in an advanced integrated CADCAM system to design and model he most complex and sophisticated instruments an devices. Together with the investment in a rapid prototyping capability this enables the company to produce a working prototype product within 24 hours of initial outline.

This technology was acquired from Medisys in October 2000 and The Medical House took charge of the project in January 2001. Since then we have developed a device which detects ammonia, known to be released by helicobacter pylori (the bacteria responsible for certain gastric complaints including ulcers). The device is now being trialled under a variety of different conditions, in order to provide the data needed to market the test.

In comparison to conventional testing the Hyperlyser represents a simple, non-invasive and cheap alternative, for which the world market has tremendous potential. Our present intention is to make initial quantities in the UK, to be distributed in the UK and overseas through already identified parties.
